The Stroop task measures selective attention and the ability to inhibit an automatic response. Reading a word is automatic, naming the colour it is printed in is not, and the conflict between the two costs time. Pilot selection batteries use it to assess resistance to interference and mental flexibility.

Rules 

An instruction tells you which word to look for, and which colour to report. The word to look for is the one that is a colour name, the one that is a month of the year, or the one that has to do with piloting. The colour to report is either the background colour or the font colour, of that word or of the other one. A stack of coloured words is then displayed. Find the word the instruction points to, read the colour it asks for, and click the answer button carrying that colour. The meaning of a word and the colour it is written in are deliberately in conflict: that interference is what the test measures.

Timing 

You have 10 seconds to answer each of the 30 questions. The instruction is displayed for 5 seconds before the series starts.
